Understand your daily model quota and how to top up with paid credits

MCPJam provides free frontier model access with a daily quota. When you reach the limit you can either add your own API key or purchase paid credits to keep chatting without waiting for the quota to reset.

How the daily limit works

Every signed-in user gets a free daily quota of model usage. The quota resets every 24 hours. The exact reset time is shown on the Organizations > Billing page next to the daily usage bar.

When you hit the limit, the chat error banner shows:

“Add your own API key in Settings > LLM Providers to keep chatting now, or try again in X hours.”

You have two ways to continue:

• Add your own API key — Go to Settings > LLM Providers and enter a key for any supported provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc.). Your own key bypasses the MCPJam quota entirely and is never counted against it.
• Top up with paid credits — Purchase a credit bundle to extend your usage beyond the daily free quota.

Topping up from the chat banner

When the daily limit error appears in chat, a Top up to keep chatting button is shown alongside the error message (only when top-up is available for your account).

1. Click Top up to keep chatting in the error banner.
2. Select a preset amount in the dialog (for example $5,$10, or $20).
3. Click Continue with $X to proceed to checkout.
4. After payment, MCPJam redirects you back to the same chat session and automatically resends your last message.

If you close the dialog or cancel at checkout, your pending message is preserved for a short window so you can retry without retyping it.

Topping up from the billing page

You can also top up proactively from Organizations > Billing:

1. Open the Organizations tab and select Billing.
2. The Credit usage card shows your daily limit bar and, if you have previously topped up, a paid credits bar.
3. Click Top up in the card header.
4. Select an amount and complete checkout.

The Credit usage card on the billing page shows two progress bars:

Bar	What it shows
Daily limit	Percentage of today’s free quota used, plus the time until it resets
Paid credits	Percentage of your purchased credit pool used. Only visible after your first top-up

Both bars show percentages only — no dollar amounts are displayed. The daily bar resets automatically; paid credits carry over until they are consumed.

Credits are user-scoped

Credits are linked to your user account, not your organization. Each team member has their own daily quota and their own paid credit balance. Topping up only affects your own account.

Using your own API key instead

If you prefer not to purchase credits, add a provider API key in Settings > LLM Providers. MCPJam will use your key for all model calls in that session and will not draw from your daily quota or paid credits.
